The Super Bowl is, without a doubt, the biggest event on the U.S. sports betting calendar. The 2024 NFL championship match between the Kansas City Chiefs and the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday, February 9, is expected to pull in around $1.39 billion in wagers this weekend across legal sports betting states.
Some of those bets are hefty, too, with hundreds of thousands being put down by high-limit bettors across the country. Many of the biggest reported bets have come at retail sportsbooks in Nevada. That includes one for $800,000, and one $750,000 wager, both placed on the Eagles moneyline at BetMGM.
Bettors also placed wagers of $200,000 or more on the Eagles moneyline at online sportsbooks Caesars Sportsbook, ESPN Bet, and DraftKings. Other hopeful bettors include those with long shots or parlays.
One customer at Caesars put $550 on the 1000/1 for Chiefs’ kicker Harrison Butker to be MVP, which would pay out $550,000. At DraftKings, the operator revealed one bettor had a $100 parlay from last February – with the final leg resting on a Chiefs win at the Super Bowl – that could pay out $76,000.
The Biggest Wagers
Most of the biggest action so far has been on the Eagles, with both of the highest-recorded wagers this year placed on the Philadelphia team on the moneyline.
The biggest bet on the Chiefs was also at BetMGM, coming in at $250,769 – well off the $800,000 mark of the two highest bets.
Caesars Sportsbook reported a $200,000 bet placed on the Chiefs to win the Super Bowl LIX on February 14, 2024, just weeks after their last big game victory at Las Vegas’ Allegiant Stadium. That bettor would get $1.2 million back if the Chiefs go against the odds and win again this year in New Orleans.
The Longest Odds
One bettor who placed a speculative multi-sport parlay last February will also be hoping for a Chiefs win. Operator DraftKings shared a wager from one customer who put $100 on the University of Connecticut to win the NCAA Basketball tournament, Boston Celtics to win the NBA, Ohio State to win the College Football Playoffs, and finally, the Chiefs to win the Super Bowl.
The odds on that bold prediction were 761/1. And so far, it’s all played out. Meaning if the Chiefs win, the bettor will make $76,130.
That’s far from the biggest odds, though. As far as we found, the highest odds available on any single bet at this Super Bowl was at Circa Sports. The operator offered 4500-1 on the Eagles’ Bryce Huff to be the big game’s MVP, seeing as he has barely played while injured this season and may be on the way out from the team. No word as of yet if anyone has thrown their money away on this bet.
Another interesting proposition wager was the $10 placed on Philadelphia offensive lineman Landon Dickerson to win MVP at 1000-1 with BetMGM. As well as Dickerson being relatively average, stats-wise, over the season, an offensive lineman has never won the Super Bowl MVP across 58 iterations. Although, if the unlikely does happen, that bettor would be in for a $10,000 payday.
