Boyd Gaming’s New Las Vegas Casino Begins Development

Boyd Gaming has started ground-clearing and initial surveying work on the site of its planned new Las Vegas casino.

The Nevada-based operator is building Cadence Crossing Casino on Boulder Highway in Henderson, currently the site of the Jokers Wild Casino. The new casino is named after the nearby planned community of Cadence, which is projected to see some 10,000 people move in over the next five years.

The 15-acre site will feature a 10,000-square-foot casino floor, as well as half-a-dozen restaurants and an entertainment space.

Boyd revealed that construction will begin on the site on April 3 after an official groundbreaking ceremony. It is set to open in mid-2026. Jokers Wild will remain open and running, sometimes in reduced capacity, during the redevelopment.

The New Casino

Cadence Crossing will have at launch 450 slot machines, a dozen table games, a performance venue and event space, and several dining options. Boyd says if the new rebrand goes well, it may add more gaming options and a hotel to the property in the future.

The casino will be built separately to the current Jokers Wild buildings, on land surrounding it also owned by Boyd. There is a possibility the existing buildings could be somehow incorporated into the future expansion or demolished.

Boyd also owns Eastside Cannery casino, just north of the Cadence residential development, which has been closed since the pandemic. There has been no new word on the future of that property.

“As our Company marks our 50th year serving the Las Vegas Valley, we are excited to begin our latest investment in the southern Nevada community,” said Boyd Gaming President and CEO Keith Smith in a press release.

“Cadence is one of the fastest-growing master-planned communities in the nation, and we look forward to providing our neighbors with a modern and compelling gaming entertainment experience when Cadence Crossing Casino opens its doors in mid-2026.”

Boyd’s Changes

Boyd recently celebrated its 50th anniversary as a company, although the roots go back a few decades before that. The family owned operator’s history is very much connected to the Jokers Wild site.

Boyd family-owned Cattle Baron Casino opened on the site in 1990, and was the last Las Vegas casino to be opened by Boyd Gaming founder Sam Boyd. He died in 1993, and Boyd Gaming was officially incorporated shortly after.

Cadence Crossing will be Boyd’s first new casino in two decades built from the ground up. It has been one of the major beneficiaries of the booming Las Vegas locals and downtown market, which saw consistent growth in 2024, while the Las Vegas Strip casinos faltered.

Boyd operates 28 U.S. casinos in 11 states. It recently started moving forward with a potential new casino resort in Norfolk, Virginia.
