The Sweat's View
A 63% reading is a modest lead, and it fits the polling: Talarico ahead by a few points in most surveys, with a wide margin of error. What could change it is turnout and a late-campaign spending gap that favors Republicans. A poll miss of a few points either way would flip the favorite. Treat the number as where the market stands today, not a forecast by The Sweat.

The Case For
- James Talarico, the Democratic nominee and the market's leading outcome, led Republican Ken Paxton 51% to 45% in the New York Times/Siena poll of 615 Texas voters taken September 21 to 30. The margin of error was 4.5 points, and the June poll had them tied at 47%. Fox 7 Austin
- In the same poll Talarico led on most issues tested, including cost of living, health care and tariffs, and immigration was tied at 48%. Voters also disapproved of President Trump 57%, up from 52% in June. Fox 7 Austin
- MS NOW reported on October 8 that polling averages show Talarico ahead of Paxton by less than four points. MS NOW
The Case Against
- The lead is within the margin of error of the best-known poll and under four points in the polling averages, so a modest miss would reverse it. MS NOW
- Republicans have outspent Democrats in the race, $326 million to $116 million out of $442 million total, according to AdImpact figures reported on October 6. Fox 7 Austin
- Forecasters see a close race rather than a Democratic edge. A Wikipedia table lists Cook and Sabato's Crystal Ball at toss-up and Inside Elections at tilt Republican. Wikipedia: 2026 United States Senate elections

How It Resolves
This market will resolve according to the winner of the 2026 midterm Texas U.S. Senate election, inclusive of any run-offs.
A candidate shall be considered to represent a party in the event that he or she is the nominee of the party in question. Candidates other than the Democratic or Republican nominee (e.g., Greens, Libertarian, independent) may be added at a later date.
Candidates who run as independents will not be encompassed by the “Democrat” or “Republican” options regardless of any affiliation they may have with the party.
The candidates may be named in the contract for the convenience of traders. In the event that any named candidate is replaced as the nominee of their respective party prior to election day, the name in the contract will be updated and the market will resolve based on the replacement nominee of the party.
The resolution source for this market is the Associated Press, Fox News, and NBC. This market will resolve once all three sources call the race for the same candidate. If all three sources haven’t called the race in this state for the same candidate, this market will resolve based on the official certification.
